THE maritime industry is witnessing a shift toward cleaner practices as it recognizes its power to influence environmental impact and take a prominent role. To facilitate dialogue about potential prospects and seek viable solutions to this green transition, the Philippines, in partnership with the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina), the Danish Maritime Authority and the International Maritime Organization (IMO), organized a regional conference from May 16 to 17, 2023 with the theme “Seizing opportunities for green shipping in Asia and the Pacific.” The two-day conference has brought together government leaders, policymakers and maritime stakeholders, serving as a platform for meaningful discussions on regional perspectives in the current negotiations of the IMO Strategy on the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ships and its regulatory framework. Valuable insights and success stories were also shared by these key industry players, demonstrating the industry’s progress in fostering greener shipping and in addressing climate change.
