THE Worldwide Ferry Safety Association (WFSA) is set to unveil a design specifically crafted for the Philippines’ Pasig River, which runs through the center of Manila. The new design is aimed to help the country take a step forward toward decarbonization and sustainability of vessels plying the local trade. The design, which will be unveiled and awarded in late April this year in New York City, was the outcome of the WFSA’s 2023 Design Competition for a Safe and Affordable Ferry. Now in its 10th year, the WFSA specification called for a battery-powered ferry to serve the Pasig River.
